Record Conflicts: Multiple A Records

What’s an A Record?

An A record connects your domain (like yourbusiness.com) to an IP address, guiding visitors to the server hosting your website.

When It Goes Wrong

Having more than one A record confuses the system about which IP address to use, which can stop your website from loading properly.

How to Fix It

  1. Log into your domain registrar’s DNS settings (e.g., GoDaddy, Namecheap, Cloudflare).
  2. Find the DNS management section for your domain.
  3. Check for A records (like @ or yourbusiness.com) pointing to an IP address.
    • @ represents your root domain (e.g., yourbusiness.com).
  4. Remove any A records linking your domain or subdomains (e.g., www.yourbusiness.com) to an IP address.
  5. Save changes and wait 1-2 minutes for them to apply.
  6. Try reconnecting your domain to Concours Pro.

AAAA Record Conflict

What’s an AAAA Record?

An AAAA record is like an A record but for IPv6 addresses, a newer type of IP address.

When It Goes Wrong

  • Concours Pro spots an AAAA record for your domain.
  • The platform only supports IPv4 records, so an AAAA (IPv6) record causes a conflict, blocking the domain connection.

How to Fix It

  1. Log into your domain registrar’s DNS management panel.
  2. Find the AAAA record (often labelled AAAA or IPv6).
  3. Delete the AAAA record.
  4. Save changes and wait 1-2 minutes.
  5. Reconnect your domain to Concours Pro.

CAA Record Conflict

What’s a CAA Record?

A CAA (Certificate Authority Authorization) record controls which Certificate Authorities can issue SSL certificates for your domain, adding security by limiting certificate providers.

When It Goes Wrong

If a CAA record exists without the required value (pki.goog), Concours Pro can’t issue an SSL certificate for your domain.

How to Fix It

  1. Log into your domain registrar’s DNS management panel.
  2. Locate the CAA record (usually labelled CAA).
  3. Delete the CAA record.
  4. Save changes and wait 1-2 minutes.
  5. Reconnect your domain to Concours Pro.

For Advanced Users

If you want to keep a CAA record but allow Concours Pro, add this value to your existing CAA record:

  • pki.goog

This lets Concours Pro issue SSL certificates without disrupting other security settings.

DNS Records Do Not Match

What’s the Issue?

This error pops up when your domain’s DNS settings don’t line up with Concours Pro’s requirements. It could be due to:

  • Conflicting records.
  • Incorrect setups.
  • Your domain being tied to another service.

When It Happens

  • DNS settings might be misconfigured.
  • Even if correct, DNS changes can take time to propagate. Wait a few minutes for updates to settle.

How to Fix It

Step 1: Check DNS Records

  • Use a DNS lookup tool (like DNS Checker) to verify DNS propagation.
  • Compare your records with Concours Pro’s required DNS settings. The platform usually provides specific values (e.g., an IP address for A records or a CNAME record).

Step 2: Look for Conflicts

  • If records match, wait a few minutes for propagation (can take up to 48 hours).
  • If records don’t match, fix or remove incorrect ones:
    • Ensure no extra A records exist if an A record is needed.
    • If a CNAME record is required, remove conflicting A or AAAA records.

Step 3: Reconnect Your Domain

  1. Save changes and wait 1-2 minutes.
  2. Reconnect and verify your domain in Concours Pro.

Special Note for GoDaddy Users

If you’re using GoDaddy, make sure your domain isn’t parked.

  1. Log into your GoDaddy account.
  2. Go to My Products > Domains and select Manage DNS next to your domain.
  3. Check if your domain is parked:
    • If parked, GoDaddy is holding it, which blocks connections to any service.
    • Unpark your domain by following GoDaddy’s instructions.

Domain Connected Elsewhere

When It Happens

Your domain is already linked to another account in Concours Pro.

How to Fix It

  • Contact the Concours Pro support team to release the domain if needed.

Additional Tips

  • Propagation Time: DNS changes can take 24-48 hours to fully propagate, but they often kick in within minutes. If issues persist, hang tight and recheck your DNS settings.
  • Verify Records: Use a DNS lookup tool to confirm changes have propagated before trying to reconnect your domain.
  • Clear Cache: Clear your browser cache or use incognito mode to avoid seeing outdated DNS info.
